One of the best of Jet Li's Hong Kong films, this 1930s-set martial arts thriller is a virtual remake of Bruce Lee?s Fist of Fury, but more than holds its own in comparison. Li is at his acrobatic best as the martial arts expert who returns to his old academy — now under the control of the Japanese — after the death of his beloved tutor. The striking period settings provide a sumptuous backdrop to some superbly choreographed fight sequences devised by Yuen Woo-Ping, now better known to western audiences for his work on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and The Matrix.

Relentlessly brutal fighting in a damn good film.

Awesome fight scenes make this movie one of the best Jet Li/ Yuen Woo Ping collaborations they ever made. A more grounded fighting style than their other movies (like the wire-heavy but almost as good Twin Warriors) give the action a realistic edge. Brutal fights all round with lots of broken limbs (Nice!). Only the crappy dub is on this disc, but at least the actors don't have American accents. This is the only downside (like a few of Jet Li's films.) Hopefully HKL will get hold of it for a decent release in the future. Did I mention that this film is awesome?
