A loving homage to the 1973 Bruce Lee kung fu classic CHINESE CONNECTION, updated with increased production values, a ROMEO AND JULIET-style romantic subplot, and a more temperate view of the Japanese enemy. A martial arts protege (Li) leads his classmates in revolt after their teacher is poisoned by the invading Japanese. The .. Read more

One of the best of Jet Li's Hong Kong films, this 1930s-set martial arts thriller is a virtual remake of Bruce Lee?s Fist of Fury, but more than holds its own in comparison. Li is at his acrobatic best as the martial arts expert who returns to his old academy — now under the control of the Japanese — after the death of his beloved tutor. The striking period settings provide a sumptuous backdrop to some superbly choreographed fight sequences devised by Yuen Woo-Ping, now better known to western audiences for his work on Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and The Matrix.

Awesome fight scenes make this movie one of the best Jet Li/ Yuen Woo Ping collaborations they ever made. A more grounded fighting style than their other movies (like the wire-heavy but almost as good Twin Warriors) give the action a realistic edge. Brutal fights all round with lots of broken limbs (Nice!). Only the crappy dub is on this disc, but at least the actors don't have American accents. This is the only downside (like a few of Jet Li's films.) Hopefully HKL will get hold of it for a decent release in the future. Did I mention that this film is awesome?
If you like Jet Li's action in the american films, you'll definitely love him in this movie.
This is Jet Li like he is supposed to be. The choreography is beautifully thought out, giving the movie a bit of realism, instead of the overblown action movies you see now adays.
Good movie if you are looking to enjoy a night in with some Kung Fu action and no explosions.
This is well played and put nicely inline with all good martial arts films, it doesn't take itself too seriously and has lot's of raw action, well worth renting and I might just buy it.
Jet Li`s version of the classic Bruce Lee film , good acting and great story/ fight choreographies..Worth the watch

If you like martial arts films then this is definitely one of the best a remake of the classic Fist of Fury (Bruce Lee). Fight scenes choreographed by Yuen Woo-Ping all are excellently done, the only problem I had with this film was the dub not the worst but still terrible.
Excellent fight scenes, and plenty of them too. Jet Li is on top form in this remake of the Bruce Lee classic Fist of Fury. Each fight scene is awesome and the final fight is one of the best on screen fights of all time. There are no fast camera cuts which means each punch and kick can be seen clearly, which is the way a fight scene should be shot.
A number of the reviews have likened this to Fist Of Fury starring Bruce Lee. While Jet Li is at the top of his field he cannot be compared to Bruce Lee as he was the first and will always be seen as the greatest. Saying this, its a great film with brilliant fight scenes.
This is old style kung fu movie, with battiling schools who keep challenging each other to fights you have the revenge story you have the girl that's worth fighting for and then you have jet li wo is absoultley brilliant.
The fight scenes are amazing the film is good and the best jet li movie that i have seen.
This is perhaps the best movie of Jet Li, in which hardly wire work is used. This movie is one of his earlier movies where his action is not much matured, although he had done good job. When we compare the action by legendary Bruce Lee and Jet li, there is a lot of difference we can find. Jet Li is still unable to express different emotions, which he has to improve for the success of his career. Whatever, its worth watching movie.
One of the best Jet Li flicks ever made...I could watch this movie over and over and still be excited.
