Flashback

When straigt-laced, G-man John Buckner (Kiefer Sutherland) is assigned to escort ex-60's hippie radical Huey Walker (Dennis Hopper) to jail for past crimes, the agent finds that the old burnout is a little more cagey than he counted on. Walker gets Buckner intoxicated and steals his identification, landing the FBI agent in jail instead of Walker. Hopper and Sutherland lampoon the differences between the idealistic 60s and, the 'ME' decade, the 80s in this 1990 action comedy.

An entertaining trip through flower power nostalgia, with Dennis Hopper having a ball sending up his old screen persona. He is a 1960s activist, on the run for two decades, who is finally nabbed by the FBI but then proceeds to run rings around his fresh-faced captor, Kiefer Sutherland. The stars spark off each other nicely and there are also some neat supporting turns from Richard Masur, Carol Kane and Michael McKean as frustrated middle-aged hippies. The script lacks any real satirical bite, but it is nice to see Hopper in what is now one of his rare non-psycho roles and director Franco Amurri keeps the action zipping along.

    Good stuff

I wasn't expecting too much when i watched this film but was pleasantly suprised.Hopper is great as the wacky hippy and straight laced Keifer Sutherland is good as his FBI foil.Their chemistry is the hub of the film as their odyssey unfolds.

The film dips a little in places like most films do but there's enough momentum to carry it over the finishing line.

All in all a pleasant romp.
