    [Highly rated reviewer]

this is a film that creates an atmosphere from the word go. snapping you to attention and making you seriously think hard about what is contained within the film. a must see for anyone who is ready (and yes you really do need to be ready) so order in pizza, get a group of friends together, turn out the lights and watch this superb film which throws belief and science fiction into a meltingpot. with an excellent cast to polish off the rest of this fantastic ensemble, this film is definately a must see movie.

  • Nice idea but quite dull thriller

Medical students, want to experience near death then be revived, consequences, zzzzzzzz. Nice idea but quite dull thriller which doesn’t really do and lot and neither does it make a lot of sense. The cast all ham it up apart from Julia Roberts who I thought was great and her story was probably the most convincing. I suppose I was hoping for something a lot darker but it never really got going and the ending was just silly. The music from James Newton Howard is very good though.

Time does this film no favours and although not lauded at the time the cast does little to help it despite the majority of them all going on to greater success.

  • Very original, clever and disturbing.

DESPITE the fact that FLATLINERS (1990) was released at a time in my life when I was going through a really bad time - I still like this film very much. It is strikingly original (nobody has made a film about after death experiences before or since). The central idea is very original, intriguing, clever, and while not exactly frightening, the film is definitely disturbing. Everything with this film is well executed. I would say that this film showcases director JOEL SCHUMACHER's talent - this was before he would go off and direct awful BATMAN sequels and contrived JOHN GRISHAM adaptations. The cast is all top notch (although KEVIN BACON's character is the only one that is truly likeable). The film has a feeling of gothic horror and JAMES NEWTON HOWARD's score is very effective. Having worked together before on THE LOST BOYS (and later in A TIME TO KILL and PHONE BOOTH), FLATLINERS is definitely the best KIEFER SUTHERLAND/ JOEL SCHUMACHER collaboration. Very gripping and memorable.

A Very Ludicrous, but Fascinating film...Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin and Julia Roberts were totally the right cast for this In my opinion. They worked beautifully together.

Always a Fascinating subject, is death and the afterlife. As well as death and Resuscitation. Certainly I was kept on the edge of my seat!!
