Criminal (Trintignant) escapes from prison and gets to business by killing informant who grassed him. Then he becomes increasingly homicidal as he gets his gang to go after money. Cop (Delon) who is overdue for promotion gets this case of catching him and their lives begin to converge. Excellent movie based on true story.

Pit and the Pendulum, Planet of the Apes and Wages of Fear defined my movie watcher credentials together with hundreds of Russian and Czechoslovakian flicks nobody will ever see again. Scariest movies I ever saw are SAW, Psycho and Shining.
