This appealing children's adventure has just enough quirky touches to keep adults involved as well. Joey Cramer is the youngster who goes missing at the age of 12, only to turn up eight years later completely unchanged. It soon becomes apparent that his disappearance is linked to alien space travel. The scenes where Cramer attempts to get to grips with the fact that he has missed out on eight years of his life (his younger brother is now his elder) are neatly handled by director Randal Kleiser, who proves equally adept at the action sequences. Of the adults, Veronica Cartwright and Howard Hesseman come off best, while a pre-stardom Pee-Wee Herman (aka Paul Reubens) provides the voice of Cramer's friendly robot.
"...Pleasant....The script plays to director Randal Kleiser's strength, which is a sensitivity and conviction in depicting young people in relation to one another and their parents..."
"...A lively and touching adventure....So absorbing, such constant fun, that it may well be the best family film around..."
Movie was good (just as I remember it)- I rented this Dvd because I wanted to watch this classic in Dvd quality but the quality of the Dvd was horrible!
If you want to rent this movie, then rent it on VHS (Will give you better quality)
I didnt spend hundreds and hundreds of pounds on my home entertainment system to view rubbish quality like this.
really really disappointed
This film is timeless. Still as wonderful now as when it was first released.
I hired it for my boys to watch 6 8 10 and they were totally enthralled and adored it. I dont think I have ever seen them so engrossed or quiet.
a little bit of suspense in the first 10 minutes was enough to frighten my 7 year old but this one kept her and her sister and her dad watching throughout.
nice little twist on the et genre with the alien being the supporting act
my kids loved this film they watched it a few times i must say me and the hubbi also watched with them we never get tierd of seeing this

Nothing short of a classic, this kid's sci-fi adventure is essential viewing for children of the 80's. A young boy is picked up by an alien spacecraft to be studied. When he's returned to the wrong time and the ship is captured by NASA, David and the alien must team up to escape and put things right.

great classic this movie never gets old great one for the kids still has me laughing now.
sniffle sniffle - took me right back to my childhood. (sad i know).
I loved this film growing up & i still love it.
I enjoyed this film the first time I watched it when I was a child, and enjoyed it just as much when I watched it again. My 8 year old daughter loved this film.
Good humour throughout with an intriguing storyline.
A definate must see for anyone.
A classic of any 20somethings childhood. Recommened for purely nostalgic reasons but other than that it isn't the greatest film in the world.
Children everywhere would love to head for the stars, and they certainly do in 'Flight of the Navigator', a fantastic tale of a lost boy who reappears eight years later under amazing circumstances. Full of fun and adventure, 'Flight of the Navigator' takes you on a touching journey. I'm sure the whole family will love to rent this one!
My only criticism, as is also mentioned by another reviewer, is the quality of the picture. It is pretty poor. VHS tape quality at best!
8/10 for the movie though.

Science fiction aimed at a family audience and providing blandly innocuous, occasionally amusing entertainment.
"...Entertaining....Kids should be attracted by the visuals and some nifty special effects..."
