Good story, but not too well told..By PaulaWestwood (397 reviews) from Ashton-Under-Lyne , 06 Jun 2007
[Highly rated reviewer]Before the USA officially joined WW1, several american boys who did not have to do so, bravely (or for a sense of adventure) volunteered for action overseas. This is based on the true exploits of one of these groups. Therefore, though similar things have been comitted to film before, its not a bad reprise of a theme and the story does make this a worthwhile watch.
Having said the above, and though the film is 'good', it does have a real spread on with a trowel 'boys own' comic feel about it, this is even taking into account the different etiquette and machinery of war in 1917 being very different than today.
The air battle scenes look a bit like CGI from 10 years ago, and the general action and play of the film feels somehow contrived. It all lacks something 'gripping' to take it from just good to excellent.
So there is nothing really new to see, but the story is worthwhile and scrapes a recommendation for that alone.

FlyboysBy a customer from Stamford , 16 Jul 2009This film is fantastic. Based on event from ww1. Some romance but the doyfighting was what made the film for me.
Ok.By DCM (182 reviews) from Buckinghamshire , 03 Jul 2009For me this film never really got off the ground (fnar fnar). It was a good story based on true events, so I guess you can only write about what really happened, but it was quite slow and never really became good enough to have me gripped.
