Amiable star musical which makes heavy weather of a listless and overlong script, but has good numbers for those who can wait.
This is a wonderful film of its genre. Another reviewer complained that the plot was thin ... well, it's a 1936 musical! It's got more songs and dances than any of the rest of the Rogers/Astaire series, including some of Irving Berlin's best (such as 'There may be trouble ahead ...'). By the way: the intro, by Fred Astaire's daughter, is worth listening to.
The plot of this film is so light as to be non-existant but lets face it, no one has ever watched Fred and Ginger because of the stories. As ever the dancing is out of this world, in particular the absolutely wonderful 'Lets face the music and Dance', which makes the movie worth renting all on its own. While not the best of the Fred and Ginger films and a little lighter on dancing than it could be, Follow the Fleet has a certain charm and is certainly not the worst of the series although the secondary plot involving Ginger's sister is annoying and takes screen time from the the 2 people I really wanted to watch.
