Kenneth Horne was one of the brightest British radio stars of the 1950s and 1960s. But the stage play that inspired this timid sitcom is a far cry from the inspirationally irreverent comedy that enlivened Beyond Our Ken and Round the Horne. But what do you expect from John Paddy Carstairs, the guiding hand behind several Norman Wisdom misadventures? The flimsy plot sees Sally Ann Howes postpone her wedding to reunite her supposedly caddish father, Guy Rolfe, with mother Nora Swinburne. The cast frantically over-compensates for the weakness of the script, but they succeed only in emphasising its countless shortcomings.
"...Reback's script has real substance and perception....Told with humor, passion and wit....A film as good-looking and engaging as its stars..."
A guy meets a woman in a cafe and ends up marrying her within a few days. Romance is the key to this movie and so is putting your fingers down your throat and bringing up a bit of sick. This film has been done before and better, although Matthew Perry is the key to this film and makes it ok viewing. Nothing special.
After their rash one-night-stand results in an unanticipated pregnancy, two virtual strangers--a stuffy, upwardly mobile white Manhattanite and an intense Chicana artist--impetuously decide to tie the knot Vegas-style.
This is a great comedy for a rainy day, but take away the ethnic or pregnancy angles, and we've seen this premise countless times -- all the way back to the spate of post-World War II romances about returning veterans and the mates they married in a blink. In the end, it shows how love leads away from reason and into the mysteries of the heart.
Matthew Perry just plays himself - typecast as Chandler, he really just bumbles through the script as he would if he was in Friends. Throughout the movie, one begins to expect Monica to pop out and say "Hey, you're married to me already!!". He reminds me of the British version of unfortunate bumbling typecasts, Hugh Grant.
