Kenneth Horne was one of the brightest British radio stars of the 1950s and 1960s. But the stage play that inspired this timid sitcom is a far cry from the inspirationally irreverent comedy that enlivened Beyond Our Ken and Round the Horne. But what do you expect from John Paddy Carstairs, the guiding hand behind several Norman Wisdom misadventures? The flimsy plot sees Sally Ann Howes postpone her wedding to reunite her supposedly caddish father, Guy Rolfe, with mother Nora Swinburne. The cast frantically over-compensates for the weakness of the script, but they succeed only in emphasising its countless shortcomings.
