This classic tale of teen rebellion and repression features a delightful combination of dance choreography and realistic and touching performances. When teenager Ren (Kevin Bacon) and his family move from big-city Chicago to a small midwestern town, he's in for a real case of culture shock. Though he tries hard to fit in, the .. Read more

This is essentially a souped up Elvis Presley-style musical with a daft plot to match, as free-spirited teenager Kevin Bacon fights small-minded minister John Lithgow in a small town where rock 'n' roll and dancing are illegal. Bacon, Lori Singer, Dianne Wiest, Chris Penn and Sarah Jessica Parker perform wonders with a story that hits the drivel button and becomes overly sentimental far too frequently. While Kenny Loggins may not be the first composer you'd think of to write songs for a rock musical, his tunes aren't half bad (the title track got to number six in the UK charts), and the energy raised during the finger-snapping dance numbers is surprisingly infectious.
Twenty years on, Herbert Ross's teen yarn is already a period piece. It's set at that moment in the mid-1980s when... read more on Time Out
Odd fable which seeks to combine Flashdance with Rebel without a Cause, and misses out on both.
Ok I've just read the previous review submitted to this movie. Er Hum.... Of course it's dated, of course it's full of 80s dancing, because.... IT IS AN 80s MOVIE! What a fantastic movie at that. great story. Love the acting. Something honnest about the performances, like everyone believed in the movies direction. Undoubtedly the best film from the time. I love the dancing, I can do the dancing, it's not camp it's real. People danced like that and they were loved for it. Rent this film, you cannot fail to be impressed and relieved that they got their dance. I challenge anyone to refrain from dancing the whole way through.
go on you will love it dancing/ girls/music what do you want from a film
i must see film, fantastic
This film still cuts a good rug after all these years. Good soundtrack and cast add to one of Kevin Bacon's best movies.

This film was excellent for the dance crazed people out there!

Still a good classic of its day. Great to watch again, the soundtrack I don't think will ever date either. I think the kids of today might even like it after all these years.
This was the first time i had seen this film and i loved it it was very much a typical 80's dancy feel good movie but i thought the music was awesome and the actors were great there was of course the cheesy moments but thats what 80's flicks were all about loved it!!
Made me want to dance!
To be honest I only rented this after the sketch on Will & Grace. I figured if it is good enough to be on there it must be fairly good!
It was great - Kevin Bacon can move!
