Spaghetti Polonaise
By klauski from west sussex , 08 Nov 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
The second instalment is in many ways superior to the first, with Leone clearly gaining in confidence between the two films. As a result, part two of the trilogy has a simpler narrative, and is longer, allowing Leone more space to develop what became his trademarks of long scenes with swirling music and camerawork, at times balletic and operatic.
Clint is once again tremendous in a role more about physical presence than dialogue, and is joined by a worthwhile companion in Lee Van Cleef, who of course reappears in the final episode too.
Once again, Leone has abandoned the traditional Western's moral simplicities and given us something that, while clearly aware of good and evil, often blurs the boundaries between the two, and gives us an overall sense of human misery and degradation.
The Western was never the same after this - thank God.- Was this review helpful to you?

(43)One of the most engaging of the Clint Eastwood Westerns
By Ferry41 (223 reviews) from Oxford , 04 Jul 2011This film benefits from the competition between Clint Eastwood (Man with no name) and Lee van Cleef as rival bounty hunters. This makes the film more interesting, as the two men start their competitive partnership. Beautifully filmed, as is the case with the other Sergio Leone films of this series.- Was this review helpful to you?

Leone in fine form
By Bassman71 (618 reviews) from Didsbury, England , 01 Sep 2010A classic Sergio Leone 'spaghetti western' with Clint Eastwood & Lee Van Cleef as 'Bounty Killers'.
The setting, cinematography & music (the magnificent Ennio Morricone) are excellent. I still don't think anyone has come close to doing gunfights as good as Leone.
Some of the acting from the Italian/Spanish actors is a bit dodgy, made worse by the dubbed accents. However, Eastwood & Van Cleef make up for it with great chemistry.
Not as good as the epic The Good, The Bad & The Ugly but still a decent western.- Was this review helpful to you?

Sergio not Alone
By Jeffa (226 reviews) from Southampton , 27 Mar 2010Sorry for my bad title but I like the dry humour and unmerciful blood letting in these type of movies because they are pure entertainment and considering the movie was made over 40 years ago it shows that no matter how long it has been the entertainment business hasn't got any further than what you see on the screen in this movie.
Part of the Trilogy Eastwood made with Leone, it carries the story and scenes well even after all these years. If you want violence with a smile or a smirk, then look no further. You could do worse by going to the cinema and watching that Oscar winner that will disappoint you. Remember its all tongue in cheek.- Was this review helpful to you?

Dollars Trilogy 2
By LeSol (21 reviews) from London , 04 Sep 2009Better than the first of the Dollars trilogy and surprisingly is equally exciting, building on the character and his reactions to new situations.- Was this review helpful to you?

Exciting and classic
By Lovemore (2 reviews) from York , 08 Oct 2008If the first of this trilogy - A Fistful of Dollars - left you feeling a very little bit disappointed, perhaps because it's hard to enter into the spirit of drama with mis-synced speech and glaring tomato ketchup blood, then the second part of this trilogy will make you feel much more satisfied. Clint Eastwood teams up perfectly with Lee Van Cleef (Colonel Mortimer) and the action is captivating. Clint's lines are cool and classic, delivered in that way that only he can, and the pot-smoking villain Indio is an interesting psychological case, who provides sustained determined opposition to Eastwood and Van Cleef's money-making schemes. Overall, a great film that gets you in the mood for The Good The Bad and The Ugly, the third in Sergio Leone's sixties spaghetti western trilogy.- Was this review helpful to you?
