This romantic comedy has a cosily familiar feel to it —perhaps that's because it has borrowed its anecdotal flashback structure from Broadway Danny Rose, its initial premise from Avanti! and much of what happens thereafter from When Harry Met Sally.... There are some nice moments, but Debra Winger isn't really cut out for comedy and Billy Crystal is clearly treading water, while whatever wit and insight the film has is diminished by the nagging sense of déjà vu. The basketball sequences are admittedly funny, but co-writer/producer/director Crystal is so much in the thrall of Billy Wilder and Woody Allen that he rather loses touch with his own inimitable style.

    • Radio Times
  • Dreary romantic comedy, with the focus on Crystal's unlovable character, who is meant to be charmingly offbeat, but is just irritating; forget to watch it.
