A Good Russian War Film
By BigPhilC (11 reviews) from Cirencester , 12 Nov 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
The film is set at the start of the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941 and depicts the heroic defence of the Brest Fortress by the soviet troops recalled through the eyes of Sasha Akimov a survivor of the battles that took place that June. The film has some very good battle sequences that are very bloody and detailed and show the true horror of war. The characters and the storyline are a bit week but the action makes up for that to create a well rounded war film. A piece of Russian cinema that is worth watching especially if you enjoy an action war film.- Was this review helpful to you?

great film ,terrible history
By a customer , 14 Sep 2012a great war film but short on history . failed to point out that the fortress was in fact situated in poland and the garrison had surrendered to the russians when they invaded in 1939 . the russians had duly massacred the prisoners as at katyn . the brave jewish commissar exocuted at the end was actually so disliked that his own men handed him over to the germans to be shot .- Was this review helpful to you?

Good film
By markdunford (4 reviews) from Abbots Langley , 22 Aug 2012A good film although I did get the impression I was watching a Russian propoganda film at times.
The film was well made and acted with very convincing and, at times, very disturbingly real action scenes.
I can't really understand some peoples issues with subtitles, they are depriving themselves of some great Asian and European cinema.- Was this review helpful to you?

Epic true WWII story with some great characters.
By James45 (9 reviews) from Ilford , 30 Jul 2012Excellent WWII film covering the Nazi siege at the Fortress of Brest in what is now Belarus. Superb production values, epic action scenes, great acting and some very well fleshed out characters. Perhaps in a tip of the hat to Come and See, the greatest Soviet war film of all time (also covering Nazi atrocities in Belarus) the action in Fortress of War follows from the perspective of a young boy, one of the few survivors of the siege, as he links the various characters throughout film. I've struggled to get involved in films lately, not being able to relate to characters or the situation they find themselves in, Fortress of War changed all that, I was heartbroken by the end of it. A must see.- Was this review helpful to you?
