Proof that wonderkid Quentin Tarantino is fallible. He's the driving force behind this horribly botched portmanteau movie and he also directs and stars in The Man from Hollywood segment. Set in the same hotel the four stories are loosely linked by inept bellboy Tim Roth (apparently in Jerry Lewis mode). Allison Anders's story of a witches coven is slight and silly; Alexandre Rockwell fares little better in a farcical yarn of a lover's tiff; while Tarantino's effort barely passes muster as an anecdote. The best of the bunch is Robert Rodriguez's The Misbehavers, a cartoon-like tale of Roth playing babysitter to a gangster's psychopathic children. The cast includes Bruce Willis, Madonna, Amanda De Cadenet and Salma Hayek, but while they obviously had a ball, you won't.

    • Radio Times
  • One of those occasions where the film-makers may have enjoyed themselves, but audiences won't. Four feeble anecdotes suffer from sloppy writing and unfocused acting; it should have remained a home movie.

    What do they know....

I've just read the first two reviews of this film, and I have to say F*** 'em.

This is a fantastic example of how four different directors (who also write, perform and produce this film) can come together to form a modern classic.

On the most basic level you get a little T&A, violence, and great script. The film is over before you realise it! I found myself rolling around on the floor in laughter on more than one occassion.

On a slightly deeper level you can appreciate how good an actor Tim Roth is. You are asked to believe all this crazy sh** can happen on one night and in one place (which happens to be New Years Eve). I defy anyone to admit they can't relate to either the general situation or the bizzare experiences Ted the bell-hop has to put up with.

As you may have noticed I'm slightly biased... I love the directors and the actors. Basically, if you like the directors other works, you'll enjoy this.

    New Tarantino film fires away

    • 02 Feb 2006

Cult movie director Quentin Tarantino is set to start production on his new film within the next few weeks, according to reports. Variety has revealed that his latest flick, titled Grind House, will be two separate 60-minute horror films that will reunite the From Dusk Till Dawn production team, with Tarantino directing one and Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Spy Kids) shooting the other. Typically convoluted from the outset, the Grind House project reportedly comprises Tarantino's part, a slasher... Read more
