LUCKY STAR is the tale of a young Jewish boy taken in by a rich widow. His new home is the perfect setting for him to make-believe that he is a sheriff fighting German outlaws. In LILIOM, a brutish carnival barker is fired from his job and left on the brink of financial ruin. Desperate to make enough money to support his pregnant wife, he agrees to participate in a robbery with a two-bit thief. However, the hold-up goes horribly awry and rather that face arrest, he commits suicide. His soul ends up in Purgatory for ten years, after which he is given an opportunity to visit Earth for one day to make amends for past wrongs.
