BILL & TED star Alex Winter co-directs this idiotic “tour de farce” on warp-drive with Tom Stern, his partner on the MTV series The Idiot Box. Winter also plays the arrogant Hollywood celebrity and spokesperson for a toxic chemical being pawned off to the Third World as a bio-genetic fertiliser. On a South American promotional tour, his entourage meet crazy Freak Show owner Randy Quaid, who uses the product to turn Winter into a headlining half man/half scaly beast. Forget the insane story, just laugh out loud at the amiable absurdity, broad burlesque and unsubtle send-ups of everything from THE TWILIGHT ZONE to HOLLYWOOD SQUARES. Brooke Shields, Mr T (the Bearded Lady) and Keanu Reeves (uncredited as the Dog Boy) make eye-opening appearances.

    Funny peculiar

A daft comedy from co-writer/director/star Alex Winter sees him playing a Hollywood star best known for playing characters who say Dude a lot (Bill and Ted? Surely not) who somehow ends up representing an evil corporation and promoting a dangerous fertilizer in South America. There he gets kidnapped by evil Randy Quaid who turns him into a half-monster mutant and puts him to work in his freak show. Why? Uh. Moving on?. All of this is of course an excuse for a lot of gross-out jokes, silly humour and lots and lots of fun latex-y effects and make-up (yes, that is Keanu Reeves as the Dog Boy). It?s a bit of a mess (the non-cgi effects have aged considerably better than the costumes) and has a migraine inducing opening credit sequence, but on occasion it is very funny in a post-pub sort of way.

    Disappointing

This was really rather disappointing. Imagine the gross out aspects of Bill 'n' Ted taken to their logical conclusion but without the same wit and style. Some funny moments but sadly I can see why this bombed at the cinema. Worth a look if you're a big Alex Winter fan but otherwise I couldn't recommend it.
