Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti in Fred Claus have hit the top of the UK box office this week, according to new AC Nielsen data. Raking in over £1.93 million, the film debuted at number one ahead of another new entry, Hitman. Hitman stars Timothy Olyphant and is the adaptation of a computer game focusing on an assassin who becomes embroiled in a corrupt political web. There was little change at the UK box office this week as Ridley Scott's New York epic American Gangster stayed at number one for the second week. According to AC Nielsen, the weekend beginning November 23rd saw the film take another £1.82 million in receipts, putting it ahead of Beowulf once again. Fantasy epic The Golden Compass has stayed at the top of the UK box office chart for another week, suggesting that the film might be just as popular as the books on which it is based. Starring Daniel Craig and Nicole Kidman, The Golden Compass has now taken more than £12.2 million in ticket sales, according to AC Nielsen.
