You can't keep a good geek down according to this amiable indie comedy about a couple of Star Trek obsessives. Wannabe film-makers Eric McCormack and Rafer Weigel are inseparable. That is until McCormack meets comic-book goddess Audie England and Weigel discovers his hero, William Shatner, has feet of clay. Slickly written and played in a Swingers sort of way, this will amuse fans of Galaxy Quest and Being John Malkovich. Weigel and McCormack are impressive as the slacker incarnations of Kirk and Spock. But the star is undoubtedly the sportingly self-mocking Shatner.
Enjoyable comedy that makes a joke of ageing adolescents and the excesses of fandom and pop culture, with Shatner poking fun at Captain Kirk and Star Trek.
Terrible acting,
Terribble storyline,
Pointless sex scenes,
Very mildly funny if you can stay awake,
Must admit do did not get to the end of this film so who knows the last hour might be good!!!
This was really the start of Shatner taking the piss out of Shatner (see All Bran ads for later efforts). This is really a vehicle for the great man himself - seen through the eyes of episode quoting Trekkies.
Best line comes when the Trekkies are in a bookshop and spy Shatner for the first time and go 'Dude, that's Shatner... and he's checking out porn!'
