a HUGE film, unmissable...!!By PaulaWestwood (397 reviews) from Ashton-Under-Lyne , 03 Mar 2007
[Highly rated reviewer]This is one of those extraordinary true to life films that simply blow you away while you watch it. Surrounding the attempt to integrate various cultures into a school in Long Beach California after the Rodey King riots, this shows the winning of hearts and minds, and the changes that can be made through examples and choices. It is perhaps particularly quite relevant with the current situation of increased gang problems here in the UK.
This is an inspirational, emotional blender of a story, that is unquestionably my film of 2007 so far The positives in this film are immense, miss this at your peril, this is a brilliant piece of real life movie and I couldn't recommend it highly enough. 5 stars plus !

Good.By DCM (182 reviews) from Buckinghamshire , 10 Oct 2009This is much the same story as that other film with Michelle Pfeiffer in it as the lecturer (when Coolio did the song 'Gangster's Paradise') but the name of the film escapes me?! Very good, as it's based on true events and really meaningful with a feel-good factor at the end. Would recommend to add it to your list.
PowerfulBy Andy101b (1 review) from Belfast , 07 Sep 2009I think we have all seen this type of movie before... You know the type, the characters written off by their own bad decisions or just by peoples own prejudice's, then some hero comes in and takes over. Freedom Writers was this type of movie, but there is a twist to this 'tale'
Erin Gruwell walked into a classroom as the movie goes... What happens next is amazing! I challenge you to buy this movie, open and watch it and come away thinking its trash, I dont think you will.
The Freedom Writers is a TRUE tale of Erin Gruwell and her class of room 203 Wilson High School. She went on to get the Diarys you hear about in the movie published and into a book and along with those students of room 203 has set up the freedom writers foundation... and yes they have a website so check them out.
I think this story goes far beyond just this movie!
