(8)Worth seeing a young Ben Stiller & Viggo Mortensen...
By twosoddingcats (212 reviews) from Kingston-upon-Thames , 28 Jan 2013I rented this as I fancy Andrew McCarthy and I watched both lead actors in 'Pretty in Pink' but this film doesn't flow well as it's based on a broadway play. Ringwald is poor and lives in the countryside in Kentucky and McCarthy is a Uni student (unrealistically living at home with his parents- ALL Americans go and live on campus in the States!!). He falls in love with her but can he really love a poor High School drop out long term or is he just having a bit of fun? Is amusing to see a young Ben Stiller as McCarthy's Uni friend and Viggo Mortensen is on top form as Kentuckian white trash. Thought Ringwalds acting was a little bit too 'shouty' when the scenes were emotional.....Not much goes on here but heck, I spent most of my time freeze framing my crush from the 80s, the gorgeous Andrew McCarthy.- Was this review helpful to you?

Not fresh at all
By RJNeb2 (922 reviews) from London , 19 Dec 2012Dreary cross-the-tracks romance with preppy McCarthy unaccountably falling for bad girl Ringwald who harbours a guilty secret which doesnt even turn out to be all that interesting in the first place. The casting of the two leads seems to suggest the antithesis of Pretty in Pink, though neither of them seem to be remotely thrilled about teaming up together again, both giving extremely listless performances.- Was this review helpful to you?

Doesn't work at all
By Savage (632 reviews) from London, England , 19 Feb 2007It's far too superficial, especially in the characterisations, which steadfastly remain as types, not real people, and fatally hampered by the fact that Andrew McCarthy, as the preppy type who falls over the wrong side of the tracks and into the arms of troubled young Molly Ringwald, really can't act. The dialogue was dull and the direction all but static.
Trivia fans, however, will want to know that Ben Stiller plays the best friend and Viggo Mortensen (the only decent thing in it, alhtough since his one scene comes right at the end, you'll have to sit through a lot to get to it) the husband.- Was this review helpful to you?

An Old Mare
By a customer from England , 02 Feb 2007Thought I'd take a nostalgic trip back to Brat Pack days of old.... this was a way of saying bye bye to the past. Not very good at all and will try and hold dear memories of Breakfast Club instead.- Was this review helpful to you?
