A show for everyone
By Applie (6 reviews) from Edinburgh , 30 Jan 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
First off: this show isn't primarily about American football, it's about a community that happens to centre around football. So don't be put off if you have no interest in American football, although it'll help for following exactly what's going on during games, all you basically need to know is touchdown=good.
This is one of the best character-driven tv shows out there. Unlike Desperate Housewives, it doesn't rely on melodrama and plot twists to drive its narrative. Instead, we're given really 3-dimensional characters and the pains, joys and struggles they all go through in this community obsessed with football.
Stand-out performances include Kyle Chandler as Coach Taylor, and Connie Britton as his long-suffering wife. They very much provide the anchor for the boys of Dillon Panthers, and hence the show as a whole.- Was this review helpful to you?

Fantastic Addictive Series
By Islington_Film_Buff (6 reviews) , 08 Jun 2011We are completely hooked on this fantastic show. It may be based around a small Texas town that is obsessed with American Football but it's the human interest stories that really draw you in. I think it would be perfectly possible to love the show without liking sport/football at all. We are rather panicked because Love Film does not have Series 2. We've already seen Series 3 on BT Vision (yes we started in the middle) but need to feed our addiction with Series 2.- Was this review helpful to you?

Brilliant, honest, heart-warming drama series
By DanGavz (4 reviews) from Lincoln , 03 Apr 2011I've just finished watching FNL season one and I was simply blown away! As an avid NFL fan, the only reason I decided to rent this boxset was the American Football aspect of it, but don't let that scare you away. This is a wholesome, warm drama set around themes such as family, friends, trust, loyalty. The acting is top-notch, Kyle Chandler is one the most under-rated actors in the US today. The characters are so varied too. Matt, Tyra, Jason and Tim being the mainstays of the younger generation of the cast whos journeys' through adolescence are inspiring and sometimes heartbreaking. For anyone looking for a drama series to make them smile, cry, laugh and inspire - look no further.- Was this review helpful to you?
