Jason Voorhees (Richard Brooker) returns again to Camp Crystal Lake, where he drowned nearly three decades before while some negligent camp counselors made out on the beach. Understandably upset by this turn of events, Jason continues to haunt his old stomping grounds, dealing death to those thrill-seeking teens who venture into the woods. This time around, Jason faces tougher victims in the form of a motorcycle gang and dons his trademark hockey mask. The film was originally presented in theatres in 3-D.

"...Better than Part I or Part II even without the 3-D..."
Friday 13th dosent offer much that the previous 2 installments haven't covered, teenagers go to camp crystal & then get killed in a variety of ways.
It was originally shot in 3D for the cinema, so there are lots of strange camerea angles and acters poking objects at the camera.
Jason gets his trademark Hockey mask in this film.
Friday the 13th Part 3 literally picks up moments after the end of Part 2, with Jason seemingly hiding out in a barn while the cops comb the woods looking for him. Of course, then a dozen teenagers show up and its killing time again. This third instalment is probably most notable for Jason finally gaining his iconic hockey mask (it's interesting that the most identifiable aspect of the series doesnt actually appear until the time most film series are winding down). On the plus side the deaths are the most gruesome yet (even though you can literally 'see the wires' at some points) but plotwise this is a lazy formulaic retread of the previous two films. Once the awfully wooden supporting teens have been sliced and diced there's a good solid one on one action scene between Jason and the last survivor (which by itself gets the film an extra point), but even then the film ends with the same 'dream on the lake' ending ripped from the first film. The fact that it was originally released at the cinemas in 3D (the DVD is 2D presentation) means that there are numerous intrusive moments of characters pushing objects into the extreme foreground for no readily apparent reason. A few good action scenes and deaths, but the fact that the cast and the audience are never even told who Jason is, or learn why he is killing people, is indicative of this lazy by-the-numbers script.
