Friday The 13th - Part 4 - The Final Chapter
Crispin Glover and Corey Feldman star in this, the fourth movie in the venerable FRIDAY THE 13TH series. Though some had written off the series by this installment, in retrospect this looks like it was the best of the series (leading to more sequels, despite the title). First, Glover injects some much needed personality into the film as Jimmy, one of the many doomed teenagers at Camp Crystal Lake, and he seems to somehow make the other teens a little more entertaining, including Feldman's Tommy, ostensibly the hero of the picture. Second, and perhaps most importantly, the gore effects here are done by the legendary Tom Savini (the original FRIDAY THE 13TH and DAWN OF THE DEAD), who adds a level of inventiveness to the endless killings that the series hadn't yet experienced. Plus...horror fans finally get to see what Jason looks like under that trademark hockey mask.

The plot is as negligible as ever, the sex-obsessed teenagers interchangeable and the grisly murders all twists on the old favourites in director Joseph (Rosemary's Killer) Zito's take on the Camp Crystal Lake blueprint. Special make-up genius Tom Savini gives the body count an extra dimension of charnel house nausea as machete-wielding Jason goes on the rampage again. Incredibly, Zito manages to create tension prior to each shock demise, and he also provides a truly nightmarish denouement. Crispin Glover of Back to the Future fame stars.

The awful mixture as before: would that the title meant what it says.

Barnstorming return to form!
Recently been watching the Friday the 13th films in order, but had never seen parts 4 or 5 before. I have to say how pleasantly surprised I was to find that this now ranks up there as one of the best, possibly even favorite (fingers crossed 6 holds up as well as I remember). The most impressive thing is how it's so focused on what makes Jason great. It rotates scenes of comedy, teenage sexuality and gore every few minutes so that it all forms into a gloriious whole with everything going on at once. Tom Savini returns as the special effects guy, and it's really top notch inventive stuff. Also a joy to have 2 hollywood icons in the cast with Corey Feldman and Crispin Glover. Looking forward to part 5!

could have been better
this was a good film but it is hard to distinguish between the lot. they are all basicly the same.
