Barnstorming return to form!

Recently been watching the Friday the 13th films in order, but had never seen parts 4 or 5 before. I have to say how pleasantly surprised I was to find that this now ranks up there as one of the best, possibly even favorite (fingers crossed 6 holds up as well as I remember). The most impressive thing is how it's so focused on what makes Jason great. It rotates scenes of comedy, teenage sexuality and gore every few minutes so that it all forms into a gloriious whole with everything going on at once. Tom Savini returns as the special effects guy, and it's really top notch inventive stuff. Also a joy to have 2 hollywood icons in the cast with Corey Feldman and Crispin Glover. Looking forward to part 5!

Some great kills!

By far the best of the sequels and probably the highest bodycount - there are some great kills in this one and plent of moments that make you jump. If you like 80's slashers you will love it - it ranks amongst the best!

Friday The 13th Part 4, The Final Chapter starts with a recap of the three previous films, (basically showcasing a lot of deaths!)

Following on from the previous film it also appears that Jason is dead in the barn.

One theme that runs through this franchise is sex. Im not sure exactly why that is.

Im not sure how, but somehow Jason comes back to life when in the morgue and immediately sees off a couple of staff. Interestingly Corey Feldman is in this movie, (he was hot property in 1984).

Then back to the recurring storyline. We see some youngsters on vacation en route to Crystal Lake, (will they ever learn??!) Another constant is the shabby acting from the group of youngsters, (I guess they come cheap!)

There's a funny scene where a guy is listening to what must be the biggest walkman I have ever seen!

As much as I do enjoy this series, this, (and all that have gone before), does seem really cheesey and preditable. Perhaps it hasn't aged particularly well.

33 minutes in, I sense that there is going to be a twist in the film, and if that is the case that's a case in point of the predicatibility of the movie.

34 mintues in is the most crazy dancing that I have ever seen in a movie! ha.

Amusingly, it transpires that Tommy, (Corey Feldman), leaves the front door of his house open. - Not a great thing to do with Jason on the lose!

A lot of people dive through windows, even Tommy's dog!

I don't think a youngster would be allowed to play a role like Tommy's these days, its quite involved at the end of the movie!

For me its not an improvement on the third movie. - The amateur 3D portions of actors pointing implements and playing up to the camera were very frustrating to watch, (yet perhaps that's how 3D cinematic vision had to be created back in 1982!) However, I just find the third installment better than this one.

Very predictable

This film was very predictable, you kind of know whats about to happen.

However it did keep me on the edge of my seat, and was bloody and gory.

Final Chapter

One would have hoped this as the titile suggests would be the final chapter; more of the same mixed bag as before with teenagers getting sliced and diced in a obvious format, nothing new is offered in any of the films in this decaying franchise; certainly no imagination was involved in the making of this edtion.

Crispin Glover's dance sequence alone is worth five stars...

...but the rest of the movie is much the same as has come before. Corey Feldman's Tommy character feels horribly underdeveloped - but will continue in two subsequent instalments (albeit by two different actors) - but at least the horny teens actually have some kind of substance to them this time around and *occasionally* display some intelligence and self-awareness. The kills are not without some technical merit but lack intensity (though some of the slo-mo sequences are pretty cool) and there's nothing special about the writing. That this is one of the best entries in the franchise speaks volumes about the quality.
