An inspired title masks an atrocious jiggle junk remake of that perennial favourite, The Most Dangerous Game. Bikini-clad space bimbos Cindy Beal, Elizabeth Cayton and fantasy pin-up icon Brinke Stevens must escape the laser crossbow of a castle-dwelling mad human hunter and his decapitation-programmed androids. High on topless shots but inanely rock bottom in every other department, producer/director Ken Dixon's stage-bound and slow-moving snooze-fest is a typical product from the early straight-to-video days where fun entertainment took a back seat to pandering sexploitation.

Slickly directed, and extremely gory, horror that comes closer than most to recreating the nauseating, tentacled nightmares of Lovecraft's decadent imagination and an addiction to the search for forbidden knowledge.

    Overlooked classic

This is a forgotten gem, from the same Director/Actor duo that gave us Re-animator and is in much the same vein, with great black comic moments. Been waiting years to get it on DVD, my VHS is wearing thin.

If you liked Re-animator, you'll like this as well.

Jeffrey Combs plays the mad scientist again, as he does so well, striving to create a resonator to stimulate the pineal gland in the brain, supposedly to give us a 'sixth sense'.

Obviously it all goes wrong, opening up an alternative universe, you need to watch it though, reviews don't do it justice.

The pace (and gore) never let up, one of my all time favourite horrors.

    Ooh, slimey!

Hopefully this is the rare uncut version of the film, as I acquired it recently and really enjoyed Stuart Gordon's attempt at what is, essentially, an alternative 'Re-Animator' (another film he helmed). This one involves a special machine that can open up an alternative universe. Look out for the monster who seems a clear influence on the beast from 'Slither'. Jeffrey Combs is wonderful here as the scientist character, a role he plays to perfection in the 'Re-Animator' films. There's some gross stuff here too, though I'm not sure how much a cut version would trim away to secure a rating. Regardless, this isn't Gordon's best work as a director but it is highly recommend and worth checking out. Aside from 'Slither', who makes films like this in Hollywood anymore?
