Futurama - Season 1
14th September 2005
Most people, I think it is fair to say, missed Futurama. It continues to be shown occasionally on Channel 4 in the UK, and regularly on Sky, yet it was eclipsed by its more famous cousin.
It demands a little bit more from its audience than The Simpsons, yet the rewards are higher. The best lines are more memorable, the episodes well structured. Sci-fi fans will love the references to many shows, and indeed the appearances in Futurama of many sci-fi favourites, such as Leonard Nimoy's head.
Bender is the real star of Futurama, the Bart equivalent, a hard drinking dishonest lazy robot.
For a show set in the year 3000, it manages many contemporary gags, such as the future illegal personality copying company called Kidnapster, which gives illegal downloads of Lucy Lui, among others.
Good news everyone:-
There are rumours of a Futurama movie. With the recent sad decline in the quality of The Simpsons scripts, there is still space for Futurama, sadly cancelled in 2003.
