    Oh dear

The only thing I can recommend about this film is the incredibly gorgeous Sonny Chiba, who as usual turns in a great performance and shows his fitness and skill yet again. The plot, storyline, premise, acting, sets etc are all abysmal and the film is nasty. As a huge Sonny Chiba fan, I can recommend it to fans who are familiar with his work on truly dreadful films, as you will be aware what to expect and know that you have to blinker out everything else just to see him. If you aren't a Chiba fan, don't let this film be your first viewing of him!

    A waste of time...

I had no real expectations for this film, but to say I was dissapointed would be one hell of an understandment. It starts off promisingly enough with one of the best time travel sequences I can remember in a film - very surreal and disorientating - as Sonny Chiba and his band of brothers are hurtled back to feudal Japan for no apparant reason (something to do with a constellation being in the wrong place I think).

Things soon take a turn for the worse however, when fearless leader Chiba hatches a plan for them to get back to their original time, a plan so dumb and completely void of common sense that it instantly turns the film into a pointless waste of energy; if Sonny and his soldiers wage war and take over the entire country, thus making themselves the rulers of ancient Japan, it will create 'an earthquake in time' which will send them back to the future and to their normal lives completely unharmed. Seriously, thats the best plan they could come up with.

Well, such a premise could be bareable if the film itself was entertaining and the characters compelling enough, but they aren't, and aside from a near epic battle involving a tank and a helicopter against an army of samurai, this is a very dull, even frustrating experience, made no easier by it's 2 hours 20 minutes runtime.

Take my word for it, this film should be erased from history.
