G.I. Samurai

Starring Sonny Chiba
Run time 138 mins Certificate 15

21st July 2009

I 'spose you have to take the time it was made into account (which I didn't) and it has all the quirky delights of the early Bruce Lee movies with unbelievably bad special effects. At least we are spared the poor dubbing by having subtitles. A thought provoking concept of a modern army transported back in time is almost farcical in the way it was interpreted. And yet, there is the thread of poignancy and pathos that runs through the movie and brings it to life, culminating in the final scene that brings a lump to the throat and a tear to the eye (Well nearly!!!) If you are into samurai movies it's worth a watch.
