films based on real life serial killers are very rarely as chilling as anything that probably happened in real life. quite often the movies play out like padded tv movies and this mostly falls into that category.
perhaps most of mr gacy's activities shouldn't be dwelled on but often this film feels like a tv movie of the week.
in some respects it feels quite rushed and we never get into the mind of the killer. the acting is bearable but the film is nowhere near chilling enough and, at the end, instead of feeling disturbed you just feel that it's a throwaway horror thriller.
which, of course, is wrong.
