(8)AKA Tower Of Death
By Ian Davies from Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales , 28 Jan 2007As long as you can get past the fact that this Bruce Lee film doesn't feature any 'new' Bruce Lee fights it is not half bad. Hwang Jang Lee is great as always playing the villain, and Tang Lung is acceptable as Bruce Lee's brother. (Though he is doubled for in most of the acrobatic stuff by Yuen Biao.) The plot is complete nonsense, but Yuen Woo Ping's choreography is well worth the effort, especially in the last half hour.- Was this review helpful to you?

Bizarre Oddity that's Wonderfully Bohemian and Strangely Beautiful!
By Joseph Kuby from United Kingdom , 15 Oct 2005This film is not only one of the most unique Kung Fu/Hong Kong films made from this period but one of the most unique films ever made period.
The film manages to combine a period, contemporary & futuristic setting into a truly dazzling spectacle of high-camp/high-tech/high-kick fun!
This film also features some of the best work ever to come from Hwang Jang Lee and Yuen Woo Ping. Heck, Yuen Biao does more action in this as a stunt double + small role than he does playing a lead character in Yuen Woo Ping's Dreadnaught (which should tell you about the scope of the action in this film)
The highlight is no doubt the finale. The idea of having an electrical panel covering the bottom of two opposing walls which threatens to electrocute any trespasser is imaginative.
In fact, this film is probably the only chance you get to see Yuen Woo Ping, Sammo Hung & Corey Yuen Kwai choreograph fight scenes within the context of one film (with Drunken Master being an exception), so it's certainly a rare treat. Interesting to see how Corey & Sammo lifted one idea from the finale of this film and put it into the finale of Dragons Forever (not just the 'martial arts showdown within a drug laboratory' concept but even a scene where someone falls into a red-tinted narcotic-doused river).
The only thing wrong with this film is that the film's plot leaves a few holes and that there's some cases (not all) where the archive footage doesn't gel with the new footage (though it's certainly more successful than the prequel's attempts at this). Also, there's the obvious use of stunt doubling as well as the flawed production values (whilst the film's budget looks huge for its time, one can see a shaky wall as Kim Tai Chung kicks two silver-dressed henchman on the staircase during the finale - highly reminiscent of the critically panned UK soap Crossroads).
If you still feel bad about the Bruce Lee connection, then order the Korean version (which omits the Bruce Lee footage) on the following site:

AKA Tower Of Death.
By drunkenmaster (479 reviews) from Merthyr Tydfil, , 17 Jul 2005This was released as Tower Of Death, but changed to Game Of Death 2 in International prints to cash in on the 'Bruce Lee' connection. The worse aspect of this film is the use of clips and out-takes from 'Bruce Lee' films, mostly Enter The Dragon and Fist Of Fury, rather than the Game Of Death as the title may suggest. This is only the first thirty minutes though. After that we have a completely different film.
The plot is total nonsense which makes no sense at all if you stop to think about it. All things said though, this film has some pretty good fight choreography from 'Yuen Wo-Ping' and 'Corey Yuen'. 'Hwang Jang-lee' puts in yet another "evil" bad guy performance with some great fighting, mostly with 'Yuen Bia'o doubling for star 'Tung Lung' in the excellent finale. As long as you can get past the fact that this has no real connection to 'Bruce Lee' this is watchable, if not that great.
The extras on this Hong Kong Legends disc are quite informative....... better than the film itself if I was being brutally honest.- Was this review helpful to you?
