Chilling and Mesmeric.
By glitterpoet (1 review) , 29 Jul 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
This was a fabulous series. So compulsive that we watched the whole lot in three sittings. There are chilling and mesmeric performances from the leads and a growing sense of doom with each warning that 'winter is coming'. Being HBO there's the compulsory sex and swearing, not always gratuitious but often so. The scenes in the North were wonderfully dark - the wall is amazing. Lots of visual feasts here - and shades of Star Trek obsessiveness with the invented language of the horse tribes. The final scenes of the series were both satisfying and tantalising. This was brilliant - can't wait for the next series.- Was this review helpful to you?

(189)Stick with it, its worth it
By a customer , 13 Jun 2013I found this a bit slow going at first, and quite difficult to follow, however it grew on me and towards the end I got very into it. It looks like a swords and sorcery thing for kids but it is actually a very sophisticated mix of politics and intrigue. ANother great HBO product.- Was this review helpful to you?

Absolute Brilliance
By a customer , 11 Jun 2013Wonderful, wonderful series. You lose yourself in it. Bit odd that disk 3 has only one episode on it, though!- Was this review helpful to you?

Story-telling doesn't get any better than this.
By a customer , 30 May 2013First class addictive fantasy series. Plenty of action and good absorbing storylines with some unexpected endings. Not for the faint-hearted - if you can't stand blood and gore you won't be able to watch this. Looking forward to season 2.- Was this review helpful to you?

A Waiting Game!
By Leemanchee (12 reviews) from Tamworth , 15 May 2013If you're wanting a series that you can kick your feet up and relax with... think again. Game of Thrones requires 100% of your attention, and you'll still probably get lost. There are lots of characters, with heavy back stories, some have similar names and some just appear. It's slow and the first 6 episodes are heavy with dialogue and little action, and several plots panning out. Around episode 8 things start to take shape and things begin to happen, but even then its nothing groundbreaking or overly original. The dialogue and acting in parts is questionable, as is certain casting. If you like soft porn, then you're in luck. I'd say practically each episode has it's fair share of nudity, some is warranted, most is for controversy. Swearing. If one thing blights me more than anything it's the use of certain words, in certain contexts that spoils things. It is a clear sign that the writers wanted shock, rather than think of a clever way to script. Gore, lots of it and it's necessary. I don't mind this at all. It's to be expected. Overall the first series has been disappointing. There are parts I like but generally it's a bit jumpy, slow and not overly original. So far the first 5 minutes of episode 1 have been the best, only for that part not to be drawn upon again, sadly. Also, the episode distribution on the discs is stupid. Disc 3 and 5 have only 1 episode, yet others have 3. Doesn't make any sense. I have given it a chance as so many friends raved about it, only on further investigation to find out series 2 is when it gets good... apparently. If you can sit through several hours of heavy dialogue and backstabbing, before things get going you might enjoy it. I can't express my disappointment after hearing so many good things. I've been told a second watch is helpful... there is no chance of that.- Was this review helpful to you?
