Gantz is far more cerebral than its large breasted, gore dripping exterior implies. It's a pretty well executed study of the human condition under extremes (think Battle Royale), and it looks pretty to boot. It can also be funny, upon occasion. It must be said though, it's very slow moving, and every moment is milked for the maximum amount of tension to the point where tension seeps into boredom, in places. This is due the the fact that the gantz comicbook was still being written and released while this series was being made, and it does show. If you can get past that, this is definately a rewarding series that gets better as you make progress.
