Solid Sci-Fi action filmBy Gkeaney (89 reviews) from London , 05 Oct 2011
[Highly rated reviewer]This is NOT an English language film! For me I dont care, but for some reason so many reviews of foreign language films start like this as if its a big negative. Such a shame, I'm not raising it as a bad point but want to make this review useful even for those not up for reading during their movie entertainment :)
Im not into Manga/Anime but enjoy some good world cinema action. This film delivered for me. With no background knowledge on Gantz I simply wanted to see some decent action, I wasnt overly concerned with the story but that part was pretty interested, if not really fully complete.
For a fairly long film the characters didnt seem overly developed but they were a likeable bunch. I doubt many will agree but for me it was a sci fi take on Battle Royale, random youths thrown into combat for reasons they dont know.
The overall mystery and relationship sub-plots may not be fully explored and as such disappoint but I'm assuming if someone rents this its due to the action the plot synopsis suggests and if so it should deliver. Good news is a sequel will be available shortly, and since I cant wait to see it then I must have enjoyed this!

Almost perfect...By Coolbox (22 reviews) , 10 Jul 20123. 5 stars may be harsh.
I really like the idea behind the story, it's interesting (i said interesting not realistic) and gives a lot of oppurtunity to develop plot lines/new characters/enemies so plenty of depth.
However, and i have the same complaint with a lot of Japanese/Korean films, the majority of second and third acts are almost always dedicated to 40 mins of 'people needing a cuddle' as i call it. Waste of time. There's plenty to be done other than reassuring Yuriko that stepping on a snail is not the end of the world (i joke of course but it's that kind of thing).
Can't wait for the sequel though.
Quality FilmBy HDSteve (2 reviews) from Hemel Hempstead , 09 Jul 2012Great film, very original. Well acted. A good balance of plot and action. Loads of high quality CGI. If you enjoy something a bit off the wall and appreciate originality this is for you. Only downside is it didn't end satisfyingly for me and wreaks of being milked for sequels.
Nine year olds might like it.By Hushwing (1 review) , 09 Jul 2012I was bored by this film. It consists of a number of routine monster slayings linked by a very trite little plot. That's about it.
Japanese Sci Fi at its best!By a customer , 19 May 2012I would suggest watching the superb Anime series of Gantz before watching this movie as I feel it would make it a richer experience. This live action version of the aforementioned Anime is fantastic. Great special effects (for a Japanese budget) loads of alien fighting action, with a strong plot filled with some great characters. If you like Sci Fi you will love this movie! This film is subtitled, but if you are a true fan of world cinema this makes little difference.
Sniff sniffBy Edwinner (3 reviews) from London , 01 May 2012It's a great idea for a story, and looks really good, but there's only so much snivelling you can take!
The first two thirds of the movie are taken up by snot nosed Japanese kids, crying about everything, not shooting aliens because they're unable to see through their streaming eyes, sobbing because they like each other, sobbing because they don't!
If they just grew a pair, it might have been a great movie!!
