    Inspiring

Inspiring: Albert Finney makes for captivating viewing of the great man. Interesting to note that the focus is not on the war, but the time prior and we see Churchill as a man who endures heavy criticisms from his peers and even ridicule for his belief that Germany is preparing for war. Throughout he remains focused, confident in the notion that everyone has a purpose and his purpose is to save Great Britain.

    A pleasure.

Strong performances all round, particularly Finney and Broadbent. I have never seen the bickering of a middle-aged couple who love each other better portrayed, and for me this was one of the highlights. Good to see Ronnie Barker as Winston's butler (and not saying 'Your nuts m'lord' or 'Your sweet, m'lady) but turning in a lovely little cameo. I started to watch somewhat reluctantly, but finished up finding it an intelligent treat. Well-scripted, beautifully shot. A pleasure.

Tipped as a tennis turkey, British director Richard Loncraine's (The Gathering Storm, Band Of Brothers) movie about a has-been tennis player rekindling past glories, has defied the odds by knocking Tom Cruise thriller 'Collateral' from the top spot. Starring the endearingly goofy Paul Bettany as Peter, and sassy Kirsten Dunst as Lizzy, the Brit-flick was torn to shreds by critics who slammed its weak gags Read more
