The clumsy ape man from Jay Ward's 1967 television cartoon takes on a jungle of another kind in live-action when he follows a visiting San Francisco resident back to the City by the Bay. There aren't as many trees, but he somehow manages to find plenty of other things to crash into--not the least of which are modern society's .. Read more

This engagingly stupid spin on the Tarzan movies, which packs in enough dim-witted slapstick to make even the most sophisticated grown-ups chuckle, took over $100 million at the US box office. Brendan Fraser — who has gone on to play more than just loveable simpletons in The Mummy adventures and The Quiet American — plays George, the human brought up in the jungle by a group of brainy gorillas led by Ape (voiced by John Cleese). Unfortunately, their intelligence doesn't seem to have rubbed off on George. The fun slows down a little when George gets whisked back to the States by heiress Leslie Mann, but director Sam Weisman largely stays true to the film's comic-strip origins.
An affectionate send-up of Tarzan, with a talking ape and a puppy-like elephant; Fraser, too, has a puppy-dog manner that gives this juvenile stuff a slight charm.
"...Filled with slapstick humor....The kind of silly summer fun that gives family entertainment a good name....It is enjoyable..."
My six year old son walked away from this film 20 minutes in and told me 'Dad, thats really stupid.'
My three year old son didn't even give it that long.
My verdict? A self-indulgent slapstic take on a (dire to begin with) American cartoon that thankfully never made it to UK television.
Steer well clear unless you thought 'dude where's my car?' was high-brow....
So how did Brendan Frazer go from this to the hero in The Mummy? Anyway, this is a great film to view with a 5 year old. The three of us were laughing out loud. Very funny and very silly. It will amuse the youngsters for many a viewing!
a bit silly but my kids enjoyed it
Simply the funniest film I have ever seen. Stop being so 'grown up' for just 88 minutes, let your 'inner-child' run free, and laugh like you did when you were 5! Stupidly wonderful.
The first George of the Jungle is the best, get it!

The kids nagged me to get this one as they hadn't seen it for years and no longer have the video.
They laughed just as much now as before and for slapstick humour I have to admit this is a great rainy day family comedy.
Hilarious! Stupid, funny, crazy but clever too. One for the child in everyone. If you don't laugh out loud you really do need to stop taking yourself so seriously. Fun fun fun!
What a wonderful film, Brendan Fraser at his absolute best. My 5 year old son could not stop laughing all the way through, neither could my 38 year old husband (same humour, I guess!). Light entertainment, non-offensive, very, very funny, without trying to hard. Would definately lift the mood of someone a bit down. Does not take itself seriously, just pure un-aldulterated, fun, fun fun!!!
Quite possibly one of my favourite films in the whole world ever
I love this film evan though I am no child. Yes it is stuped yes the plot is silly but that's what makes it so good. When ever I am sad I put this on and I am smiling in minits. Oh and the theme tune is very cachy you will be singing it all day.
This is so much better than most adot comerdys at it makes you smile. This is a true classic for all to see. So rent this and look out for that tree

This is the perfect movie to watch if you are feeling really quite silly! It will take you to another world and you wont stop laughing, this film is not ment to be taken seriously!
