Special attention is paid to historical accuracy in costumes, epic battle scenes, and weaponry. The film alternates between Northern and Southern perspectives in order to deliver a full picture of the battle that changed American history.

    An epic, in every sense of the word...

    This film was originally intended as a 6 part mini series, but it was then turned into a feature length movie running over 4 hours in lenth. Don't let that put you off though, it's an epic, sweeping account of the events surrounding the great battle towards the end of the American civil war, told from both sides of the battlefield. It forms part of a trilogy along with the also excellent 'Gods & Generals' and the as yet produced third installment. It has everything, realism, tension, drama, excitement, even education! The cast, including Martin Sheen, Tom Berenger, Jeff Daniels and C Thomas Howell are all terrific (especially Daniels), and the 4 or so hours seem to fly by. Anyone with a passing interest in the civil war or even just a great war movie will love it. Recommended!

    Excellent Film - Forget the History Nutters

    If you want a true to life perfect rendition of the Civil War, you have to be vergiung on Insanity to expect Hollywood to produce it - this is a film, not a documentory. Regrettably this film drew a fair amount of criticism from Professional and Amateur Historians alike. However I watch a movie to be entertained, not be stuck in the middle of self seeking academic waffle, if I want facts I go to a library, I want entertaining I watch a film. This one delivers tension, entertainment, huge immersion factor, and a sense of wonderment that those guys volunteered at all - let alone went time after time into that living hell of a Civil War Battlefield. The film gives enough Historical background to put the whole piece into a logical slot, and does well in setting the scene. 4hours is a long time, but it flys by, such is the quality of the Film. DONT FORGET TO TURN THE DVD OVER TO THE REVERSE SIDE - OR YOU MISS THE LAST HALF OF THE MOVIE. Strongly recommended, superb film, great Cast, passionate acting, and wonderfull Production sets

The Gettysburg star will be joined by Timothy Bottoms in the project, based on Tarzan author Edgar Rice Burroughs' adventure story - according to MovieHole.net.
