In this lacklustre adaptation of a lesser-known Mark Twain story, Trenton Knight plays the misunderstood son of Anthony Edwards, an archaeologist more comfortable with ancient artefacts than parenting. When Edwards discovers the remains of the Spanish explorer Coronado, his ghost (Cheech Marin) starts doling out fatherly advice to Knight while ensuring his bones get properly buried so he can finally rest in peace. It's occasionally funny thanks to Marin's spiritual quips, but Edwards's direction shows no verve or imagination and the fine cast is completely wasted. What should have been a bittersweet story of child neglect is a minor fantasy bore.
Bizarre vehicle for four welcome old actors, ruined by the director's insistence on frequent shock cuts to the rotting spectre. A subtler treatment akin to that of The Uninvited might have produced a little masterpiece.
A group of elderly gentlemen in their New England hometown have formed a group called 'The Chowder Society'. Together, they spend their evenings telling ghost stories to one another. However, they begin to experience an actual ghost who wants revenge. The members of the group start dying in mysterious ways, as does the son of one member, who falls to his death after seeing his new bride's face as she really is. His brother attempts to prevent any more deaths. As the story progresses, the audience learns more about the mysterious woman and her relationship with The Chowder Society members.
