This romantic and glamorous mix of the sentimental and the supernatural reaps higher rewards than Patrick Swayze's acting ability deserves. He plays the murdered banker trying to warn girlfriend Demi Moore she's in mortal danger via psychic Whoopi Goldberg, who provides the comic moments so necessary to lighten the potentially maudlin atmosphere. In fact, her performance is so good, she deservedly won a best supporting actress Oscar. The special effects are a real treat, the love-beyond-the-grave theme is very touching and Swayze's ascent into heaven is a wonderful piece of schmaltz. Who says sweetness and light are, er, dead?

Deftly made, romantic, sentimental, sometimes silly thriller that was the surprise hit of 1990, either because of its fundamentalist view of heaven and hell or its underlying theme that revenge is good for the soul.

sad, but good story

This is one of the saddest films I can remember watching. Its an unconventional story, and features an incredible performance by Whoopi Goldberg. If you haven't yet seen this it is well worth it, but remember the tissues!

LOVED THIS FILM

Loved this film. The film is a romantic sad film with a bit of comedy thrown in. Good story line that keeps you viewing through to the end. Nice film to watch cuddling up to your beloved on a Saturday night.

sad, but good story

[Highly rated reviewer]

A 'Must See' movie

This is a movie to see before you die. Good at the movies as well as at home.

Great story line and characters.

Ideal for the romantics out there (not really a lads night in movie).

Leaves you feeling good at the end of the movie.

Good 5.1 sound and a classic.

Unlike the movie Titanic this can stand the xmas rewatching.

Ghost: very watchable romantic comedy. Husband even watched it with me and thoroughly enjoyed it.

A real love story with a superb performance by Whoopi Goldberg who lightened the whole atmophere of the film, but desperately sad in places too. Extremely watchable again and again.

This was overall a good film but looking a bit dated now. Quite a tearjerker but very watchable. Patrick Swayze, although nice looking, doesn't appear to be the best of actors and I found his reactions unconvincing and his facial expressions at times, almost comical because they were so exaggerated. Demi Moore puts in an ok performance. In my opinion, Whoopi Goldberg was the one who made this film worthwhile watching. Very good performance from Miss Goldberg.
