Audacious piece of TV history
By swonky from Hampshire , 12 Aug 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Yes, TV was once brave and audacious enough to broadcast a live version of 'The Exorcist' with well known TV personalities in a prime time slot. I highly doubt anything like this would even get near the sanitized TV execs now, so it's a real treat to watch this DVD.
It's difficult to review this given that a.) 12 years have gone past and we're all a little more jaded (Blair Witch anyone ?!) b.) it's not live. If I were reviewing this in 1992 I'd say that they most definitely pulled it off, but in 2004 it's close, but no cigar.
The acting is unfortunately what lets the whole project down somewhat, and there are occasions where everyone gets rather carried away and credibility it stretched just that little bit too far. However, there are a few scenes, particularly near the end, that send shivers down the spine and the ending is really rather powerful, even now.
Try and approach this as if you are appreciating just how brave it was and how well it was pulled off rather than expecting to be shocked to your core.

(67)Still scary after all these years
By LKW (1 review) , 08 May 2013After Jerry Springer the Opera this is the most complained about TV series and got the BBC into a lot of trouble which is why it has never been repeated and took so long to arrive on DVD. Watching again it's interesting to see how many times you can see Pipes, which would have been just subliminal when first aired in the early '90s. Very, very creepy.- Was this review helpful to you?

Well worth the watch
By EKCO (6 reviews) from Reading , 10 Feb 2013I missed this when originally shown and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. Very much in the genre of classic BBC scifi such as the Quatermass series (significant similarities to Nigel Kneale's `The Stone Tapes' towards the end).- Was this review helpful to you?

Surprisingly Scary Gem!
By a customer , 10 Dec 2012This is very good, as someone who watched naff 90's Saturday night TV as a kid, this seemed very authentic! Which in a way made it creepier. Some people have described Ghostwatch as influential, I think they may be right. If you like horror focusing on ghosts, this is a must watch.- Was this review helpful to you?

Predictable and wooden
By a customer from Swansea , 19 Nov 2011Michael Parkinson and Crew seemed wooden to me, although this was the 1990's and Haloween was was relatively boring up until that point. Did like the bit at the end though when Michael Parkinson was possessed at the end.!- Was this review helpful to you?
