Oscar-winner Angelina Jolie (Girl, Interrupted) gives an early knockout performance in this dark and provocative TV movie. She stars as Gia Carangi, whose rise to fame as a supermodel in the 1970s brought tragedy as she became addicted to pills, cocaine and heroin. With its almost soft-core porn style, this is more an art house film then standard TV-movie fare. Strong performances by Mercedes Ruehl as Gia's mother and Faye Dunaway as her agent give it a powerful punch. Whatever your reservations about the subject matter, Gia deserves a look, if only for the multifaceted performance of Jolie.

    Teasing but hard to watch

If you can muster some pity for poor Gia Carangi, an early 80's supermodel who had a troubled short life, then you may enjoy this film.

Angelina Jolie appears naked... often. This does not make the script any better, but makes the film more watchable.

A perfect film to score for any music fan. Sadly the soundtrack is by far the greatest let down. No classic recordings and a poor synthesizer piece floating throughout. Feels like a made-for-TV movie.

If you are not an Angelina Jolie fan leave this alone.

    Disappointing

I know this film has a 5 rating and I know it has the delectable 'Ms Jolie' as 'Gia' but, my friends, do not succumb to temptation, it is utter disappointment...I forced myself to watch it to the end, hoping against all odds it would improve, but no. By all means read the book, which all be it fairly sensational, gives a more accurate idea of 'Gias' life.
