Excellent but prepared to be depressed

This is a well acted, well scripted view of the catwalk model Gia's life. However, it is unremittingly depressing from ten minutes in. When Gia jumps over the counter of her father's cafe to play hooky with a guy you just know she has hit the self-destruct button. The film would have more impact and be a real tragedy had Gia been portrayed enjoying some good times but every scene was such a downer.
