Mehta deserved more

Zubin Mehta is one of the great conductors of Verdi, as you can hear (despite ropy sound) in the overture where he galvanises the orchestra. He deserved a better cast and production than this. Only the Leonora of Violeta Urmana is top notch. Her elderly admirer is an embarrassment, and her brother makes an all too mature, overweight and dull student. The chief monk wobbles away. It's worth petitioning LF to get the Met version with Leontyne Price (which for some reason they are finding hard to get)
