Great filmBy Simo from Antrim , 13 Jun 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]From the director of Independence Day, there are some similarities in this film.
There is the new threat to the earth that is very hard to defeat, the slightly meek and loveable main character coupled with the more aggressive and funny other main character, with the government doing one thing while a small group of others take care of another, when put together the mission succeeds.
You will notice these similarities while watching this, however it's still a great movie. The graphics are very good and it's very entertaining. The movie makes you like both the main characters and Godzilla, and somehow makes you want both to win. It's almost like they're on the same team.
This is a great movie, and I think its well worth a rent. It would be particularly good as a family type movie as the violence isn't very gory and I don't think it contains any swear words.
I recommend this film. Enjoy!

Watchable MonsterBy Fantastiche (11 reviews) from Luton , 27 Jul 2013This is a bad film. However, Roland Emmerich's take on the giant lizard is still watchable. At least we got to see him use the fabled fire breath.
Radioactive-dino-lizard rampageBy a customer , 18 Jul 2013When this first came out there weren't so many movies of stuff being smashed up in full CGI by monsters/aliens/weather etc.. But today I think the visual impact of this film is not quite what it was. Since then more and more films have done the big destruction thing in similar locations. But its still a nice easy watch with good special effects. Its also unpretentious and not too annoyingly far fetched. Fine if you can go with the flow and just enjoy it for what it is.
I really don't know why I like this movie, but I do.By FantasticMrDix (2 reviews) , 29 Apr 2013Maybe it's because half the cast of The Simpsons (and Jean Reno) is in it. Maybe it's because of that awesome scene where the fisherman gets chased on the dock, Sonic Adventure style. The CG in most places doesn't hold up very well but it's pretty good for 1998. I've always loved Godzilla's look in this one, they went for a unique look that helps emphasize that it is a mutated Lizard and not a Dinosaur like in other Godzilla movies. The acting is awful and the story isn't great but that makes it kind of fun to watch. It's a very easy movie to watch too, purely because of the scenes with Godzilla and inside (a poorly recreated) Madison Square Garden. Overall, don't expect much and there are worse disaster movies (See all of Roland Emmerich's work besides Independance Day)
See it for easy watching- dont expect.By a customer , 24 Mar 2013A bit too long, but watchable just. Unbelievable how the humans are able to escape the unescapable so many times. Better than weekday telly.
Utter FailBy a customer , 02 Jan 2013As a casual Godzilla fan I was looking forward to this. Matthew Brodrick Fails. The CGI fails. The action fails. It totally fails.
