A documentary which explores the history of that well loved B-movie sub-genre - the slasher film. Peaking in the '80s, the slasher film is no less enjoyed today, only perhaps as a more guilty pleasure and by a less prominent group of fans. These closet gorehounds continue, nonetheless, to delight in the genre's iconic psychopaths, blood-baths of special effects, horny teenagers and outrageous to nonexistent plotlines over 30 years since their inception. Through their unconventional methods of production, distribution, exhibition and marketing, these inexplicably endearing slices of cinema continue to enthrall - as a parade of celebrity fans, directors, actors and enthusiasts of the genre here attest in interview. Writer Wes Craven, director John Carpenter and Rob Zombie, musician and director are among those to proffer their theories on the appeal of the cut-em-up flick.

Excellent documentary on slasher films!

Brilliant documentary on the slasher genre, includes lots of interviews with the people who made the films possible and most of the gruesome deaths. It covers everything from Black Christmas to The Devils Rejects and plenty of forgotten gems, plus some the studios would rather forget.

Well worth checking out!

if you're into slasher movies this is literally so perfect to watch! it is great! they have really big names being interviewed here and i found it fascinating! i must admit i fangirled when rob zombie appeared on my screen!

A horror of a documentary!

This plays like some two-bit made for tv documentary. There is no insight or substance at all. Not worth your time.

Great horror doc- a must-see for fans

I love watching documentaries about horror and behind the scenes, making of little ditties almost as much as I love watching the films themselves.

This is a great documentary that traverses the slasher genre, talks to all the big names and shows some of the best and bloodiest scenes from the whole canon.

One problem- not a single mention of Black Xmas- which, as far as I'm concerned is the REAL precursor to the boom.

Worth a watch!

A near 50 year history of the slasher genre (although to be fair the 80's are the main focus), it was entertaining enough.

Great to see the insights of directors like Carpenter and Craven!
