Comedy ahead of its time
By Marconi from N. Yorkshire , 17 Mar 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
Adrian Cronauer appeared on American airwaves at roughly the same time that UK's Kenny Everett appeared on Radio 1. And they had a lot more in common - making up characters with zany voices to amuse and disturb listeners with a sense of humour that was a few years before its time.
Cronauer's problem was that he was recruited by the American army to broadcast to the GI's in Vietnam - an army broadcasting service that would have been far more comfortable with a watered down Jimmy Young than Kenny Everett. So Cronauer - played with absolute zest by Robin Williams freed up to do pretty much whatever he wanted on set - had a tough time of Vietnam.
But the GI's loved him! You will too.- Was this review helpful to you?

Good Morning, Vietnam
By Jonquil (7 reviews) from Bristol , 16 Oct 2009Some of the humour has dated, but still laugh out loud funny. I had forgotten that the film has powerful things to say about war, race and friendship. Really wonderful.- Was this review helpful to you?
