This is a very funny & poignant sitcom. For those who haven't seen it before it centres on Gary Sparrow, played superbly by Nicholas Lyndhurst, who walks down a London alleyway to find himself in 1940. He discovers he can travel backwards and forwards between the present and war torn London and ends up leading a double life, a TV repairman in the present and a mixture of 'spy' and songwriter in the past.
The thing that makes this work so well is that the scenes set during the war are played very straight, as far as the war is concerned, with the other characters not knowing if the Allies will succed and Gary knowing they will but having to be carefull what he says. Whilst in the present day his wife can't understand his sudden obssession with the the Second World War.
The episodes in the first series are : Rites of Passage, Fools Rush In, Is Your Journey Really Necessary, The More I See You, I Get Along Without You Very Well & In The Mood.
All in all a brilliant first series by the writers of Shine on Harvey Moon and Birds of a Feather.
Time travelling masterpiece
