    Who finds this entertaining?

This show is classed as comedy and drama but there seems to be a distinct lack of either. I made it through to the third episode before giving up due to profound boredom. I don't care who is in and who is out, or which of the plethora of rich people will go to Harvard or Dartmouth. Seriously, this show can only appeal to people whose lives are so meaningless that they need to live vicariously through that of others, and who think that the lives of the rich and connected are something to aspire to rather than laugh at.

    X O X O

I love Gossip Girl! It's compelling, but yet fun, lighthearted (at times) and entertaining. Centred round the lives of Manhattan's elite teenage set it has more reality in it than a lot of other American teen dramas, while still having enough sensationalism in it to make it something to talk about. It's not afraid to deal with the big issues of drugs, alcohol and infidelity, and this is apparent from episode one.

I particularly like the power battle between Blaire and Jenny, makes for interesting viewing, and adds to the main Serena/Dan story line.

If you're a fan of other American teen dramas, then you'll probably like this; and if not, I'd say give it a try anyways!

    Gossip about what

This show is about nothing, Its glossy nonsense packaged with a silver bow. Serena breaks up with Dan in every episode and Blair and Serena's feud is about nothing, oh its supposed to be about Serena disappearing into thin air leaving Blair alone in her swanky New York pad to have margurita pyjama parties. Where is the parental control?

Gossip Girl is over hyped, at least teen dramas like Dawsons creek and One Tree Hill are about something.

    Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl is fascinating, and captivating, and although, even the most ''virtuous' of characters are duplicitous and materialistic, one can't help but be drawn to the, indulgent, and ostentatious behaviour of the 'Upper East Siders', Their practices proving the social/ economic divide remains, if anything ensuring the gap deepens and widens whilst they await their birth right assured place at the helm that appears the steer the US economy. The fact that the cast are mainly adolescents seems to make the world they are inexorably embroiled in seem more farcical than tyrannical, resulting in entertainment rather than a socialist revolt. Their adult pursuits, particularly their positions of prominence amongst the elite of NYC's night life, and 'it' crowd, despite their senior high age group is, what I feel saves the show and although I have no doubt 15 year old kids can/do drink, and due to their parents names, it is overlooked, I doubt, however, if their profiles, irrespective of their trust funds or parents' legacies are in reality quite as significant as Gossip Girl suggests. Their antics 'recreational habits' although well acted, by actors clearly beyond the tender ages of their characters, are farcical, if they are to be believed then, in a state where alcohol can't be legally imbibed until 21, the oft 6 year gap between these age groups should result in criminal proceedings including charges of child abuse. The poetic licence and suspension of belief are part of the charm of Gossip Girl. I would recommend it entirely due to its outrageous portrayal of NYC's elite. I LOVE it.

    A Total Surprise

I'm not usually a fan of US teen drama's however, i have to say Gossip Girl has got me hooked. It's very compelling, slick and glossy with lots of drama and some humour as well.

The cast is very beautiful but can actually act as well. Lot's of very interesting storylines throughout the first season.

I would definitely recommend it to anyone to try at least once.

I'm not usually a massive fan of Teen American tv shows, but after a friend recommended it to me, i was hooked.

this series contains lots of twists, gossip (obvs) and the end of every show leaves you reeling.

    DEFINITELY something to watch.

    It is what it is....

I had no interest in this series when it first aired on tv, then caught a repeat of the first episode by chance and it hooked me in straight away.

It kept me gripped with its story lines the whole way through, its funny and at times touching.

Its just the thing if you just want to chill out and watch something unchallenging, a great way to escape in to the NY elite teen scene!

However, as the title of this review states, it is what it is, so if teen dramas aren't really your idea of a good time, then probably best give it a miss, rather than rent it and feel short changed.

I for one though, cannot wait for season 2!
