In this thriller, three students on a journalism course start a rumour about a prudish fellow student having sex at a party to see how quickly the story will spread. When their ruse leads to an accusation of rape and an innocent man's arrest, the gossip-mongers are divided as to whether to own up or not, and dark secrets from the past also surface to complicate matters. Davis Guggenheim's film is visually striking, but it never fully capitalises on the dramatic potential of its premise. Similarly, the young cast is attractive, but the performances are shallow, with James Marsden's turn as the cynical Derrick the only one worthy of mention.

    Gossip

This movie is extremely slick and stylish. From the begining of the film you get the impression that you are in for one hell of a ride. Our three main charecters are journalism students and as a project that have to research rumours and gossip. They all figure that the best way to research a rumour is to make a rumour. They deside to spred around that the most popular girl in the whole school hooked up with a boy in the toilets. This rumour starts spreading like wild fire and alligations of rape and murder start being flung around the campus. All the way through this film you think you know whats going to happen but then something happens that really suprises you so you really have no idea what will happen next. The acting in Gossip is very good and the direction is even better. all the backround is very stylish and the various club scenes are really funny and intresting to watch. But definatly the high light for me in Gossip is the well woven intresting shocking and just baffling end which could of been really really predictable but instead became revelationary because evry thing you though you knew becomes wrong. At the begging it looks like there were only going to be three main charecters but everybody even very minor people become pivital to the plot. Every single detail of the film is important so be careful not to miss anything.

This film is actually really intelagent, witty, thought provocking and shocking.

Its All Just Gossip At This Point

Ah 'Teen Actors', how the studios and producers must love you. Not old enough to be taken seriously as 'real actors', not young enough to be free of any flak from people who watch the movies, it is your job to coast along this difficult middle road of 'teen', and take what you can get, and while you can get it.

With this in mind, its fairly easy to see how Gossip would appeal to the pre-Almost Famous Kate Hudson, The 'I want to break free of Pacey' Joshua Jackson, The X Man James Marsden, and the rest of their peers.

Because, Gossip is exactly the kind of hollow, harmless fluff that slips under the press radar, and usually builds a great life for itself on DVD or video. Not good enough to be 'cool', not bad enough to be vilified, Gossip is stylish enough to be considered stylish, and has just enough storyline that when the ending hits, you'll be shocked enough to say 'oh', and then be done with it.

Zellweger laughs off Bridget Jones 'rumours'

    • 21 Oct 2009

Renee Zellweger is baffled by reports she's preparing to reprise her role as Bridget Jones - because she knows nothing about plans for another sequel. Gossip suggests the actress is set to don a fatsuit to play the singleton for a third time - eight years after the first adaptation of Helen Fielding's best-selling novel. But 40-year-old Zellweger insists she hasn't been approached about the role. She tells Usmagazine.com, "I get asked (about) that every single day and I don't know anything." Read more
