Outstanding
By a customer from Winchester, England , 28 Oct 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
This is movie-making at its most thoughtful, intelligent and provocative. Kevin Kline and Steve Martin turn in beautifully nuanced performances that manage to provide the comedy for which they are deservedly renowned but without the mania or slapstick, just subtle, perfectly under-stated, rich character-studies that linger long after the credits have rolled. The same goes for the rest of the cast, without exception. Well worth watching. And perhaps re-watching. Kasdan has given us another gem.- Was this review helpful to you?

Relationships drama
By skeadugenga (148 reviews) from Reading , 24 Jan 2006At just over 2 hours, this film felt like a lot longer. This is a relationships drama, not a lot happens, people wander about trying to make sense of their lives and their relationships with each other. Very little humour in evidence. Kevin Kline is excellent as always, but Steve Martin hits a really bum note as the producer - he's a cartoon amongst real characters. Danny Glover plays pretty much the only sympathetic character of the bunch, and he's good, its just a shame that the material wasn't better. Not a film I enjoyed.- Was this review helpful to you?

The cracks run deep
By RJNeb2 (934 reviews) from London , 15 Oct 2005Like a dry-run for the more ambitious 'Short Cuts', this remarkable film is apparently about nothing but sneaks up on you and makes you realise that you have to find your place in the world. 6 interconnected characters find life in the war zone that is present day Los Angeles increasingly hard to bear. And then one by one, they become exposed to the little miracles that fill up our days and which we're all too busy to see. America might be going to pot, says Kasdan, but there's always hope. It's a reaffirming thing to learn, and that's what makes this movie great.- Was this review helpful to you?
